Construye tu propio Poi de práctica (Ignis 256 HD Match)

Target specs:

  • Length: 67 cm (26.4")  Diameter: ~1"  Weight (each): 210 g (7.4 oz)

Materials

  • 1" wooden dowel or PVC pipe, cut to 67 cm

  • Sandpaper (120–220 grit)

  • Tape: hockey/gaffer + a little electrical tape

  • Weights: small washers/coins (for dowel) or sand/rice (for PVC)

  • Nylon strap / tubular climbing webbing (loop handle)

  • Optional: pool noodle (safety version)

  • Nice to have: kitchen scale, measuring tape, zip ties (2–4), drill + 3 mm bit / small screw-eye or bolt, scissors, lighter (to melt strap ends)

Step-by-Step

  1. Cut to Length

    • Cut the dowel or PVC to 67 cm (26.4").

    • Mark the center at 33.5 cm and choose one handle end.

  2. Smooth the Ends

    • Round/smooth both ends with sandpaper.

    • Add a thin wrap of electrical tape on each tip for a clean edge.

  3. Make the Handle Loop (18–20 cm loop)

    • Cut nylon webbing; melt the cut ends lightly so they don’t fray.

    • Aim for a finished loop length of 18–20 cm.

  4. Attach the Handle (pick one method)

    • No-drill (quick & strong): Lay 5–6 cm of the webbing tail along the handle end of the rod and wrap tightly with hockey/gaffer tape for 8–10 cm. Add 2 zip ties over the wrap for security.

    • Drill (extra secure): Drill a 3 mm pilot hole ~1 cm from the handle end; install a screw-eye or a through-bolt with washers. Tie a short cord, then lark’s-head your webbing loop to it. (Optional: add a swivel.)

  5. Add a Comfortable Grip

    • Spiral-wrap 8–10 cm of hockey/gaffer tape at the handle area.

  6. Weight to 210 g (even balance)

    • Weigh the bare rod on a kitchen scale.

    • Dowel: tape washers/coins under the outer wrap near both ends (not only the tips) until total = ~210 g.

    • PVC: pour a small, equal amount of sand/rice into both ends; cap or tape closed; adjust to ~210 g.

    • Goal: even distribution so it spins smoothly (not tip-heavy).

  7. Balance Check

    • Balance the rod on a finger at the center mark.

    • If it tips, shift/add/remove a little weight until it balances flat.

  8. Identify Ends

    • Add a thin white tape ring at the non-handle end so you can tell ends apart instantly.

  9. Optional Safety Version

    • Slide a pool noodle section (cut to 67 cm) over the rod; tape the ends.

    • Re-check total weight and adjust back to ~210 g.

  10. Spin Test & Final Wrap

    • Test slow forward/back circles; check for wobble.

    • If wobble: redistribute a little weight and retest.

    • Seal weight areas with a clean outer tape wrap.

Quick QA Checklist

  • Length = 67 cm ✔ Weight = ~210 g ✔ Diameter ≈ 1" ✔

  • Balanced at center (±1 cm) ✔ Handle loop secure & comfy ✔

  • Ends smooth & taped ✔ No rattle, no loose weights ✔

Next: Practice circles → butterfly → 2-beat/3-beat weave → reels → fountain, in same-time and split-time. Once smooth, you’re ready to step up to the LEDs.
